Havurah

DeWitt Mainstage Theatre

Commissioned by the Big Bridge Theatre Consortium in conjunction with the Jewish Plays Project, this beautiful play explores interfaith tensions on a college campus after a shooting incident at a local synagogue. Havurah, loosely translated as 鈥渃ircle of friends,鈥 centers the faith journeys of students in the Jewish Student Club and the Christian Social Justice Club in the aftermath of the shooting. How does our faith support us in the midst of tragedy? When does activism harm more than heal, and how do we partner well with those who are hurting as we seek to create 鈥渁 circle of friends鈥? Join us for this premiere event!

Concord, Massachusetts, 1863. The four Marsh sisters gather in their attic just before Christmas. Meg longs to be invited to a ball, Amy longs for a Christmas tree and Beth longs for her father to come home from the war. Meanwhile Jo is bursting with the creative energy of a writer on the verge of unleashing her imagination. The four join together to rehearse Jo鈥檚 new operatic adventure and the sisters鈥 worries are allayed for the moment. Thus begins the adventures of the Marsh sisters as they face life鈥檚 trials together and learn that despite what life throws at them, family bonds last forever.

The Night Witches

Nina and Vera have finished their training as navigators and will fly their first combat mission against the Nazis tonight. The Russian women of the all female, 588th Night Bomber Regiment, welcome the newbies to the front and help prepare them for what鈥檚 ahead. However, their enemy has a new tactic up their sleeves that will take everyone by surprise. Nicknamed the 鈥渘ight witches鈥 by the Germans, the women flew in planes made of canvas and wood, dropping bombs on the Germans every fifteen minutes through the night to keep their enemy from sleeping. Using movement, song and poetic dialogue, The Night Witches celebrates women鈥檚 courageous military service during World War II and beyond.

The Night Witches is produced by special arrangement with THE DRAMATIC PUBLISHING COMPANY of Woodstock, Illinois.

When Minhee and Junhee, two dedicated sisters struggling to survive in North Korea, find themselves in trouble with the authorities they make a mad dash to cross the border to freedom. But only one sister makes it. While Junhee learns to navigate the fast-paced, and often bewildering culture and language of New York City, Minhee enters a dream-like authoritarian world, where ears grow on trees and double speak is the only hope for survival. Join us for a powerful story of sisterhood, filled with beautiful imagery, surprising humor and hope.
