Patrick Gentile, Ph.D., assistant professor of Communication at 91自拍论坛, was named the winner of the 2025 Lawrence Wenner Emerging Scholar Award, given by the Communication & Sport Division of the National Communication Association (NCA).

Dr. Brandon Boatwright, assistant professor of communication at Clemson University and division chair of Communication and Sport at the NCA, presented the award to Gentile in November during the NCA鈥檚 annual convention. 

The judges committee stated they 鈥渞ated his contributions the highest in the discipline.鈥 The Lawrence Wenner Emerging Scholar Award annually recognizes one scholar who received their terminal degree within the last five years and has exhibited superior scholarly activity in the communication and sport field. 

At Hope, Dr. Gentile teaches introductory communication courses and others focused on specialized areas: intercultural communication, sport communication and qualitative research methods. He is also an affiliate faculty member in the interdisciplinary global health and global studies majors, in addition to the newly created sport studies minor in the Department of Kinesiology.

Dr. Gentile also serves as the faculty advisor for the Communication Club and Lambda Pi Eta, the communication honor society. He enjoys conducting research projects with Hope students. His research niche is intercultural communication within professional sports. He鈥檚 especially interested in the impact of language barriers and other intercultural communication subjects on the performance of professional sport teams. As a doctoral student, Dr. Gentile鈥檚 work with another student was awarded the 鈥淭op Student Paper鈥 award of the Communication & Sport Division of the National Communication Association in 2020, recognizing his paper titled 鈥淗ablamos Ingl茅s: Media Portrayals of English-Proficient Latin American MLB Players.鈥
